Introduction to the module

The manner in which people interact with computers is a growing area of study. Known formally as HCI - human computer interaction - the area of study links computing with other disciplines such as psychology. This module provides the fundamentals of the discipline of HCI by relating the theory to a range of application areas such as the Internet, interactive television, mobile communications and, of course, the computer.

Objectives

The objectives for this module are:

  1. to enable students to appreciate the importance of usability within information technology applications
  2. to explore and investigate definitions and theories of human computer interaction
  3. to implement, compare and contrast different practical approaches to usable systems evaluation
  4. to enable students to explore application of the theory to a range of different technologies and environments such as the Internet, interactive television, mobile devices and computers.
  5. to relate HCI to other aspects of Computing and IT
