Website Management

Introduction to the unit

This unit enables learners critically to analyse and manage internet or intranet websites. The focus is on the management of websites on an appropriate server. This unit is for learners wishing to gain a greater understanding of the management and organisation of websites. A desired prerequisite for the delivery of the unit is that learners should have a good understanding of the basic terminology of the internet.

In your work try to put yourself in the position of someone who is considering utilising your skills and understanding in order to perform the tasks indicated for an organisation whose staff have little knowledge of this subject. They will be hoping to rely on you to do so with at least a satisfactory degree of competence and efficiency and you should explain technical terms and jargon. You must also distinguish between contents that you have obtained from other sources (books, magazines, the internet, tutor notes, colleagues etc.), citing references for those sources so that a view can be taken as to their reliability and relevance, and your own original work.

Learning outcomes

On completion of this unit a learner should:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of performance considerations for internet or intranet websites
  2. Determine website user requirements
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the development and promotion of websites
  4. Understand documentation of website management.
