Assessment criteria

Listed below are the criteria for this unit, the evidence that students need to present in order to meet the grades shown.

Pass

For a pass grade a learner should be able to:

  1. prepare web pages using suitable software
  2. identify and describe the different types of internet/intranet connections
  3. identify the main advantages of websites for users
  4. prepare a plan to promote a website
  5. demonstrate the ability to set up a website
  6. specify hardware and software requirements.
  7. Merit

    For a merit grade a learner should be able to:

    1. understand the effect of the user’s web browser and screen size have upon the appearance of web pages
    2. understand the circumstances when technologies such as Active Server Pages, JavaScript, Java Applets, XML, etc are required
    3. understand how websites should be managed in terms of updating, development and organisation
    4. Distinction

      For a distinction grade a learner should be able to:

      1. evaluate in detail the effect that the user's browser software has on the final appearance of web pages
      2. evaluate in detail the effect of download time in relation to large website files
      3. evaluate critically an existing website in terms of performance and fitness for purpose.
