The
original image was 2272 pixels wide by 1704 pixels high. Digital
images are measured in pixels which can be thought of as a bit like
squares of information which comprise the whole scene. That’s
about 4 million pixels. Each individual pixel can hold a range of
further information. For this image over 10Mb of storage would be
required to preserve all the image information.

So it’s not much help
for e-learning. It needs reducing – not just in physical dimensions
but in the amount of information stored. This process is called
compression. Luckily, image editing programs can do this easily
for you. In fact, most images from digital cameras will have a certain
amount of compression already. This one’s compressed file
size was 607Kb but that’s still too big and the physical dimensions
were still the same.
