I wanted to use a picture of an Albatross in this Project. (There’s a campaign about to be launched at the time if writing to draw people’s attention to the misuse of ‘long-line fishing’ which is claiming the lives of these remarkable birds at an apalling rate. Even if it’s long past by the time you read this you can still learn more here.)

I found an excellent picture via Google Images on the Canberra Birds Gallery site.

I sent an e-mail to the address shown on the site and they passed my request to the photographer, David Cook.

David replied a couple of days later and not only said ‘Yes. Go ahead’ but he also offered me lots more of his pictures to choose from and supplied lovely high resolution ones too!

So this copyright business needn’t be the drag it seems – you can make new friends and even get better images in the process!
