At first glance this may look like one of those to do lists. It
is however much more powerful, with all sorts of extra features
that make it very useful for staff and students (especially students!)

Engrade is a suite of tools that acts as a gradebook for courses,
as well as a communication vehicle. It seems aimed at schools as
it allows parents to participate. However college students and tutors
could benefit. Grades and scores can be weighted and listed by letter
or number. Administrators can oversee educators' classes.

An earnest-looking project by the good people at Tufts. They ought
to know what they're doing and have added several useful features
to a traditional mind-mapping tool.

Double-clicking works for creation and editing anywhere. Drag-and-dropping
works for reorganising, marking, map-shot, and adding attachments.
Explode your ideas without any interruption. Write in-line notes
and record audio notes in your meeting minutes. You can even search
your topic in Google and drag images back without leaving the working
window.

Mindmaps can help you decide what topics to study, as well as provide
an upfront visual cue of what you already know and thus don't need
to study. Mindomo has an interface and feature set that rivals even
free standalone mindmapping applications such as Freemind. Maps
are shareable but require you to register and login to save them.

Very new and very, very interesting. Billed as a project management
tool, the nice interface features a calendar, a place to write tasks
and a list of the people in your team. Dragging items from one place
to another produces target end dates or adds them to others' lists.
Substitute assignment for project and student for solleagues, class
for team and you'l get excited too. Oh, there's also a live chat
facility too! Amazing. All on-line. No download.

An organisation tool, not a grading tool! Frantically trying to
keep on top of homework is a waste of time. Instead of spending
time trying to figure out what homework to do, let Gradefix do the
organizing for you. Simply add your homework tasks and Gradefix
will work them into students' schedules.

Writeboards are shareable, web based text documents that let you
save every edit, roll back any version and easily compare changes.
Use Writeboard to write solo or collaborate with others, either
within your college or wider, or to work with students on assignments.
Writeboards can also link into the BackPack tasks and to-do organiser
site.

Freemind is an open source mind mapping tool that is very easy
to pick up and use, some say. Some heavyweight brains behind this
project. As it is written in Java it will require a download of
the latest Java runtime package.
